A reality TV show is a genre of television that documents and follows true-to-life situations of either famous figures or normal people. It focuses on personal conflict and is a common source of entertainment for the audience.
Bigg Boss Kannada is the Kannada version of reality TV show Bigg Boss, broadcasting in India. It is similar to Big Brother wherein a number of people, known in the show as “housemates” live together in a house built especially for the show and they are isolated from the rest of the world. Each week, a housemate is nominated until eventually there is one winner remaining.
Bigg Boss Kannada is shown on Viacom 18’s Color Kannada channel and is currently being produced by Endemol through Endemol Shine India. It is currently the no. 1 reality show in South India.
The show which premiered in 2013 is hosted by Kannada actor Sudeep since the first season, which was aired on Colors Kannada, and the reality TV show has gained nothing but positive response from the viewers. For the second season, it moved to Suvarna and received an even bigger audience.
Bigg Boss Kanada 5 (BBK5), which is the fifth season of the series will be premiering on October 15, 2017 with the finale to be aired in 2018. It was moved to Colors Super, which is the second Kannada general channel by Viacom18 in order to increase the market, audience and viewership for the show. Following the same format, contestants will have to stay at the house for 100 days until a winner is determined.
The reality television series will continue to be hosted by Sudeep, who signed a US$2.8 million deal with the network to continue hosting the next five seasons. The 5th season is a completely revamped version, as announced in the finale of the previous season. The Bigg Boss house is now renovated and the contestants are completely new. This will also be the first season that will allow non-celebrity contestants to join with online auditions taking place in July 2017.
Bigg Boss Kannada in its’ success, has developed quite a cult following and has received tons of fans of the show. Hopefully, it will remain the same for the fifth season.
